BHA honours Oliver and the Olympic team(14 July 2005 00:00)Jamie Oliver, the London 2012 Olympic bid team and the Savoy Educational Trust were all rewarded for their services to the hospitality and tourism industry at the British Hospitality Association's annual lunch last week. The event went ahead last Thursday (7 July) at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, despite the horrific bomb blasts in central London. It was attended by about a quarter of the expected 400 members and guests. Jamie Oliver was praised for highlighting the challenges facing the school meals sector and for influencing public opinion and the Government. The London 2012 Olympic bid team was recognised for its promotion of the UK on a global scale and for its triumph in winning the Games. Article continues below
The Savoy Educational Trust was rewarded for supporting training and education and the development of qualifications in the industry. Richard Edwards, former chairman of the academy of food and wine service, retired Goring hotel general manager George Goring and Michael Gottlieb, president of the Restaurant Association, were also awarded fellowships.
