Grange to launch women-only rooms block at London hotel
Grange Hotels will unveil a women-only wing at its Grange City hotel in London on 1 September.
The five-star, 300-bedroom venue will offer 68 exclusively female bedrooms in a newly built seven-storey block.
The move is in response to demands from female guests and is designed to cater for businesswomen.
Barry Wishart, Grange's assistant director of sales and marketing, said: "Female travellers are looking for a perception of security. The business traveller market was traditionally dominated by men but nowadays it's 50:50."
The new rooms are also designed to cater for specific female requirements. Facilities include a powerful hairdryer with an extra-long cord, large bathroom shelving, a backlit make-up mirror and a spyhole and chain-lock on the door. Female-only bedrooms will be charged at the same rate as other rooms.
The group may roll out the concept at its new 300-bedroom hotel in St Paul's, due to open in 2008. Grange managing director Tony Matharu said: "It's something we're considering. The new St Paul's hotel could well offer the same facilities."
Wishart said there were no plans to provide female-only rooms at its other 13 UK properties, but the group would monitor the Grange City site.
