Gate Gourmet and T&G hit stumbling block(16 August 2005 16:54)Talks between the Transport and General Workers Union (T&G) and airline caterer Gate Gourmet have broken down after resuming last Friday. According to the T&G, the stumbling block was Gate Gourmet’s reluctance to re-employ workers who organised last week’s unofficial strike by 670 workers. T&G general secretary Tony Woodley said: “Talks have broken down as a consequence of Gate Gourmet wanting to selectively re-employ those who had been sacked even though there is enough for everyone.” “The T&G remains in talks with British Airways but it is our belief that BA cannot do a Pontius Pilate on this issue. It is ‘cost down’ that has led to the sacking of our people,” he added. “BA must now play a part in the resolution.” Article continues below
