W&D buys English Country Inns

Wolverhampton & Dudley (W&D) Breweries has made a £13.65m cash offer for pub group, English Country Inns (ECI).

The acquisition, representing 128p for each ECI share, is part of W&D's ongoing expansion, which saw it buy Jennings Brothers in May.

W&D's chief executive Ralph Findlay said: "ECI's estate of 14 pubs is an excellent fit our existing Pathfinders Pubs business, and reinforces our position as a leading operator of high-quality pubs across the country."

Roger Hunt, chairman at ECI added: "ECI has acquired a strong portfolio of public houses over the past four years and the offer is a fair reflection of the value that has been created during this time."
