Mascarenhas to open fourth restaurant

Rebecca Mascarenhas, owner of London neighbourhood restaurants Sonny's in Barnes and the Phoenix in Putney, is opening a new eaterie in Abingdon Road, Kensington.

The new venture, called Abingdon Road, will replace Lebanese restaurant the Phoenicia and will be headed by Greg Blampied, former head sous chef at Clarke's on Kensington Church Street.

Scheduled to open in early October, the restaurant will seat 100 and serve modern British food based on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.

Average spend is expected to be about 60 for two with wine, with lunch set menus priced at £12.50.

"We're going to be serving simple food with flexible menus so people can have one course or a full meal," said Mascarenhas. "We're going to be an everyday restaurant, not somewhere for special occasions."

Mascarenhas also owns a Sonny's restaurant in Nottingham.
