Wetherspoon's promotes healthy kid's meals

Pub operator JD Wetherspoon is introducing a free bag of fruit with its children's meals to encourage healthy eating.

The bag, containing apples and grapes, will be offered from 27 September.

Volvic Splash, which is water with orange or blackcurrant, has also been added as an option.

Phil Sermon, Wetherspoon's head of catering said: "We believe that it is important that children eat fruit and drink water daily. This is borne out by the addition of the fruit bag and water to the kid's menu."

He also said that none of the children's dishes have added preservatives, sugar, artificial flavours or colours and have reduced sodium and controlled fats.

All 655 outlets offer a minimum of seven children's meals which include chicken curry, macaroni cheese and shepherd's pie.
