Fuller Smith & Turner PLC

Fuller, Smith & Turner P.L.C. is historically a family business, based in Chiswick (West London) for over 160 years.

Mission for the Future
Over the years, we have built up a reputation for running great pubs, bars and hotels, as well as brewing outstanding beers such as London Pride, ESB, and 1845. Further continuous investment will move us closer and closer towards being the benchmark in retailing and brewing, delivering quality, service and pride in everything we do. One of our priority objectives is to attract and retain committed employees, to develop their potential, and let them share in the success of our company.

Individuality and Independence The company is made up of The Brewery, Managed and Tenanted estates and a small but successful Hotel Division. We continually look to the future, whilst retaining our traditional family values and reputation for looking after our employees.

People are often surprised by the diversity of Fuller's pubs and bars. At present we have approximately 130 pubs/bar (including 8 hotels) and we are currently looking to double the size of our estate over the next few years. So we are always on the lookout for a wide range of people at all levels with committed, loyal, customer-focussed personalities, and real passion for the trade, to join our ever-growing team.

We understand the importance of looking after all our employees regardless of level or job status. We firmly believe that without the right people, our businesses would not be the success they are today.

We are committed to people development and providing individuals with the right opportunities to progress their careers further, at the right time. The progression of people is a real passion in our company, and nothing beats the satisfaction of seeing an individual develop and further their career when the time is right.

We take great care to ensure that each business has, and will be developed in, a style that is sympathetic to the building and appropriate for its location and customer base.

The majority of our managed estate is concentrated in and around London, and we are always on the lookout to expand further afield.

  1. Ale & Pie - generally in the City of London, and featuring lunchtime trade.
  2. Gastros - traditional pubs, with a huge emphasis on fine food and drink.
  3. Suburban Classics - traditional pubs with a modern twist.
  4. English Inns - large destination country dining pubs, with beer gardens.
  5. Quality Locals - traditional pubs, sometimes with a Thai restaurant.
  6. Fine Line / Style Bars - contemporary surroundings with great, usually table, service.
  7. Hotels - An eclectic mix of individual hotels

    Management Opportunities
We successfully manage individual businesses through high standards, and by providing professional, customer-focussed service. This is only achieved by having managers who are passionate and take pride in the business they operate. We believe that managers are the driving force and, within the company structure, we encourage them to come up with new ideas and initiatives.

Trainee Management Opportunities We view all our lower levels of management as our next generation of managers, and therefore we believe it is vital to invest time and training to coach and develop them, offering opportunities at every level to progress. The majority of training is conducted in-house as the greatest form of learning is hands-on experience.

Staff Progression, Development & Training The management training programme has both bar and catering sections, with various levels of certification that can be achieved at a pace to suit the individual and the needs of the business. Training, coaching and assessment are provided throughout.

Development days are held to assess your individual career needs and highlight areas where further experience and training are required. After the day, you will receive feedback and a tailored development plan to help you realise your potential and advance along the management path.

This whole programme is adaptable to your individual needs, and there is no right or wrong length of time for completion (although the average is about nine months). It's entirely down to you as an individual: your drive, enthusiasm and commitment.

We offer staff at all levels, from floor staff to general managers, development courses in subjects such as marketing, human resources, training skills and business awareness, as well as statutory courses such as the NLC, Health & Safety and Food Hygiene, to ensure continued self-development and to lay out a career path.
