Latest NewsMichelin unveils New York's stars(02 November 2005 09:57)New York’s inaugural Michelin guide has seen the city leap-frog London in the culinary stakes, winning a grand total of 51 Michelin stars. An astounding four restaurants were awarded three stars – Alain Ducasse, Jean-Georges, Le Bernardin and Per Se. This compares with London where only one restaurant, Gordon Ramsay on Royal Hospital Road, has the coveted three-star status. Four New York restaurants were given two stars – Bouley, Danube, Masa and Daniel while some 31 received one star. One star awards included Aureole, Babbo, Café Boulud, Café Gray, Garmercy Tavern, Nobu, the Spotted Pig and WD-50. London currently boasts a total of 41 Michelin stars, including four restaurants with two – The Square, The Gavroche, Pied à Terre and the Capital Restaurant. Article continues below
Director of publications for the new guide, Jean-Luc Naret said Michelin had decided to publish its first North American guide in New York because of the city’s reputation as one of the world’s leading fine-dining centres. “New York City’s cultural diversity makes it one of the most interesting cities in the world, and restaurateurs have shown great determination and hard work in developing high standards of gastronomy and service,” he said.
