Tourism Society honours Olympic team

After successfully bringing the 2012 Olympics to London, the organisation behind the bid was yesterday honoured by the Tourism Society.

The London Olympic bid team became winner of the 2005 Tourism Society Award for their outstanding contribution to UK tourism in the past year.

Mike Power, the team's chief operating officer, received the award from the Tourism Society's President, Lord Thurso, at the Society's annual dinner in Westminster.

Thurso thanked the team for the boost they had given tourism throughout the UK.

"The remarkable effort by everyone involved has given our tourism industry an opportunity to rise to the occasion, and give a global audience a quality experience," he said.
