Schools honoured for serving healthy food
Primary schools serving healthy food have been honoured in the second annual Soil Association School Food awards. Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver cooked for and presented prizes to the four winning primary schools.
Scottish school Hurlford Primary in Kilmarnock scooped the Food for Life School of the Year award and the top prize of £2,500 worth of school kitchen equipment.
Robin Gourlay, East Ayrshire Council's catering manager said: "The parents, staff and children are absolutely delighted. We tried to make it normal and acceptable for children to have real food and real cooking."
Thomas Fairchild Community School in London won the Times Body and Soul Food Education Award and £1,250 worth of school kitchen equipment.
Landscove Church of England Primary School, Devon and Lethbridge Primary School, Swindon shared The Highland Spring School Dinner Award. The schools received a term's supply of water and £1,250 of kitchen equipment each.
