Jarvis Hotels Ltd

Jarvis Hotels Ltd is a UK based hotels company operating 49 branded hotels across the UK. In 2001 we entered an agreement to operate the majority of these hotels under the Ramada International brand and at the same time the operational side of the business was restructured / streamlined with hotels grouped in 6 regional clusters each ‘lead' by an Executive General Manager.

There is a top to bottom commitment in our company to help our people reach their full potential and in our dynamic working environment, that means continually evaluating and evolving our approach. Our company has won several awards for its innovative training over the last few years.

The reality for our people 'on the ground' is that we focus on 5 key themes: -
Transparency & Clarity - Key Accountability Statements exist for every role in our organisation and the structures in our businesses and support centre are clearly communicated to support everyone's understanding of the value of their role. Key objectives cascade from a corporate level and are adapted accordingly through to clusters, hotels, hotel teams and individuals to provide clear direction and goals. Our award winning 'Exceeding Expectations' brand standards training makes operating standards crystal clear and a process of regular performance reviews means that everybody knows ‘how they are doing' and what their contribution 'means'.

Individual Strengths - We work to identify, then develop our employee's natural strengths in line with our competency profiles, (often helping the employee to understand his or her own natural preferences). Our energy goes into making people better at what they are already good at. We all enjoy doing things we're good at.

A Great Induction - The most difficult of time for a new employee and the period of your employment for which we provide most support. Cluster induction seminars run on a 4 weekly cycle to allow new employees from different hotels to 'bond' and supplement the comprehensive training provided by their Department Manager and less formal learning from the department 'Buddy'. New management recruits receive further support via specially trained Skills Coaches familiar with their relevant area of expertise. Good Leadership - We believe that the most significant influence on the enjoyment of both our staff and our guests is the Department Manager. For this reason we place a great emphasis and put lots of energy into developing the leadership qualities of these employees, focusing on their training and coaching skills as well as developing their ability to provide feedback on employee performance. All our managers have to be good leaders-they are responsible for our employees' development

An Environment to Thrive in - We strive to create conditions that will allow the ambitious to thrive and those who are happy with their lot to enjoy. Our hotels provide a challenging, dynamic environment. We believe everyone arrives at work ready to do the best they can and we provide the training and encouragement for them to do just that. Team and individual 'incentives' exist in most departments and our food and bar outlets are set-up for our customers to reward great service.
