(30 November 2005 11:41)

Londoners spend 25% more on dinning and hotels than their regional counterparts, according to a new survey.

Figures on household expenditure released yesterday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveal that while the average UK weekly expenditure in restaurants and hotels sits at £36.10, Londoners spend £44 per week.

Wales was the lowest spending region, with an average of £30 per week spent on hotels and restaurants.

Overall the figures show a slight increase in expenditure for the hospitality industry as a whole compared with last year, when the national average was £34.90.

Northern Ireland recorded the highest average spend for takeaway meals, spending £6 on indulging, which was 59% more than the UK average of £4 per week.
