Costa to enter Chinese market

Whitbread-owned Costa is in talks to enter the Chinese coffee market next year, as its global expansion gathers pace.

The UK-owned company opened outlets in Pakistan with franchise partners The Gerry's Group and Pakistan and Maritime International Dubai this September, following its expansion into India with local franchise partner Devyani International in April.

Costa now operates in 13 countries around the world.

Last week the company launched itself into the travel concession business with branded tie-ups with Virgin Atlantic, P&O Ferries and GNER trains.

Virgin Costa has specially developed an aeroplane-friendly espresso machine so that cabin crew can serve Costa coffee to passengers.

Back on solid ground Costa is set to open its 400th store in the UK this week.
