Nottingham pub with three Anglo-Saxon caves changes hands

Two brothers have bought a Nottingham pub that comes complete with three Anglo-Saxon caves.

The Grade II-listed Loggerheads Inn is in Cliff Road, at the edge of the city’s Lace Market and at the bottom of the cliff below the old Nottingham Gaol.

An unusual feature is the beer cellar, which is set in a cave cut into the cliff. It is one of three caves – which were originally Anglo-Saxon tunnels – that can be reached from the rear of the pub.

The three-storey property is a first-time pub purchase for Peter and John Leary, who paid a sum close to the £45,000 asked for the remaining six years of the lease.

It incorporates public and lounge bars and a pool room and skittle alley, with a small car park and patio area outside.

The first-floor owners’ accommodation offers a bedroom, a lounge, a kitchen-diner and a bathroom.

The Nottingham office of Christie + Co sold the inn on behalf of Mick and Vivian Walton, who are retiring after running the business for seven years.
