Hotels in the West Midlands saw revenue per available room (revpar) plunge by 18.2% during the month of December.

Revpar dropped to £41.87, down from £51.18 during December 2004, according to figures from hotel benchmarking service The Bench.

Occupancy decreased by 6 percentage points to 58.2%. Average room rate also fell steeply, by 9.9%, to £71.89, compared with £79.77 in December 2004.

The Bench - which is partnered with US firm Smith Travel Research - provides online benchmarking data for in excess of 34,000 hotels in more than 400 markets.
