Marston Hotels joins call for total smoking ban

UK-wide group Marston Hotels has become the latest hospitality company to back Caterer‘s campaign to Stub Out Smoking.

Opening its new £22m Nottingham Belfry hotel this week (1 February), it called on MPs to back a total smoking ban in enclosed public places when they vote later this month.

Marston's managing director Chris Scragg said: "We want legislation to make the situation absolutely clear, creating a level playing field for all parts of the hospitality industry."

The Nottingham site will be smoke-free with the exception of its function rooms.

"We'd like to have gone all the way with a blanket ban, but in the current climate that's not commercially sensible," said Scragg.
