Hotels in the South West saw revenue per available room (revpar) slip by 3.4% during the month of January.

Revpar fell to £38.73, down from £40.10 in January 2005, according to figures from hotel benchmarking service The Bench.

Although occupancy increased by 0.5 percentage points to 60.7%, average room rate dropped by 4.2% to £63.83, compared with £66.65 in January 2005.

The Bench - which is partnered with US firm Smith Travel Research - provides online benchmarking data for in excess of 34,000 hotels in more than 400 markets.

The online service allows users to track their performance in average room rate, occupancy and revpar  in a variety of formats and to measure their daily performance against their competitors.
