QHotels bags first Scottish property

Leeds-based QHotels has acquired its first Scottish property, The Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld.

The 100-bedroom hotel was bought for an undisclosed sum from Morton Properties. It also features an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and health and leisure club.

QHotels now plans to invest around £5m updating the property, including a refurbishment of all public areas, the leisure club, restaurant and bar and the addition of new conference facilities.

Managing director Michael Purtill said: "The hotel is currently trading well and we hope to build on this and make The Westerwood Hotel the first choice for not only the business and conference customer but also an attractive option for a short break."

The group now comprises eight hotels, including the Midland in Manchester; the Queens in Leeds; Chesford Grange in Warwickshire; the Park Royal in Warrington; Norton Manor in Winchester, Forest Pines in North Lincolnshire; and the Cheltenham and Gloucester Chase hotel in Gloucestershire.
