Designers let loose on Savoy hotel uniforms
A reality TV programme has decided the fate of the Savoy hotel's staff uniform, taking it from candy-stripe kitsch to designer cool.
Reality fashion design series Project Catwalk and the Savoy have joined forces to redesign a uniform for female room attendants at the hotel.
The Liz Hurley-fronted programme sees 12 hopefuls compete for the chance to prove themselves as the UK's best new fashion talent, with tonight's episode following the designers as they set out to design a new uniform for the Savoy Hotel.
The exercise proved to be so successful that the winning design has been commissioned by the Fairmont-owned hotel, with the new uniforms now ready to wear.
A spokesperson for the Savoy admitted that they had been investigating the possibility of a uniform redesign prior to being approached by the programme.
"We were looking for a new uniform as there was a genuine need for it, especially after the Fairmont rebranding," she said. "The former candy-stripe uniform wasn't glamorous, and the thin polyester didn't make the staff feel professional."
Female room attendants at the Savoy hotel will be suited and booted in their new designer uniforms from tomorrow (Friday 24 February).
Project Catwalk airs at 8pm on Thursday 23 February on Sky One.
