Acquisition-hungry Swallow Hotels is close to completing two more major deals in Scotland - buying the family-owned Freedom of the Glen group and the prestigious Carnoustie golfing hotel.

The deals are the latest in a string of acquisitions for Swallow, part of the London & Edinburgh Swallow Group, which has seen its hotel portfolio grow from just 33 in 2003 to nearly 150 today.

In the Freedom of the Glen deal, Swallow will add the Ballachulish hotel, the Isles of Glencoe Hotel & Leisure Centre and the Oban Caledonian, all in the Scottish Highlands and each with about 50 bedrooms.

The Carnoustie hotel near Dundee has 85 bedrooms. Prices have not been disclosed.
