Home-delivered pizzas to lead boom in convenience foods(21 March 2006 15:30)Home-delivered pizzas will spearhead a predicted 41% boom in the sales of takeaway and convenience foods during the next decade, claims a new report. The Convenience Food Report from think-tank the Future Foundation predicts the takeaway and convenience food sector will grow in value from £8.7b in 2005 to £12.3b in 2015. It forecast the pizza delivery market will outperform the overall convenience sector, increasing both its value (from £540m in 2004 to £1.1b in 2015) and its total market share (from 6.4% to 9%). Pizzas ordered through the internet or TV will sky-rocket 2877% (from £13m in 2005 to £374m in 2015) accounting for one in three home deliveries. But the biggest growth in the next five years will be seen in text-messaged orders, which will contribute £44m of pizza delivery sales by 2015. Article continues below
