Gordon Ramsay has come top of a poll of favourite celebrity fathers.

The fiery chef and father-of-four topped the survey of 3,000 British mothers despite his reputation for bad language.

Tory leader David Cameron came fifth, while Labour chancellor and aspiring leader Gordon Brown is 10th in the poll.

TV star Jonathan Ross, chef Jamie Oliver and Bob Geldof are also in the top 10.

British mothers credited Hell's Kitchen star Ramsay, 39, with embodying qualities of hard work and discipline.

The poll was commissioned to mark the launch of new kids channel Cartoon Network Too.

Dominic Gardiner, spokesman for Cartoon Network, said: "It's fascinating to see what qualities mothers look for in an ideal father.

"Even Gordon Ramsay would admit that his language isn't always suitable for kids, but many mothers appear to think that he would have exactly the right ideas when it comes to bringing up children.

"The fact that within a relatively short space of time in the public eye, David Cameron is seen as being in the top five ideal fathers is very good for his image.

"Cameron's approachability, powerful aura and trendy dress sense have all helped him to capture the all-important female vote."
