More than half of business travellers have admitted they are concerned about Wi-Fi security, according to a new survey by broadband technology company iBAHN.
 
Public Wi-Fi hotspots have appeared in airports, hotels, coffee shops and railways and 30% of the 150,000 survey respondents claimed it was this “hot-spot” element that concerned them.

A further 20% are nervous about using unknown Wi-Fi providers when on the move.

Wi-Fi is a radio signal with a limited range, which allows travellers with enabled devices to wirelessly connect to the internet. 

Shire Hotels group have just installed Wi-Fi in all their hotels and marketing director Jane Waterworth said: “In the main we don’t find that customers are worried about safety and security but a few companies do insist on hard wired connections and we offer modem access in that case”.

Wi-Fi security has been put in place in every Shire hotel to allow only traffic to and from the internet, not peer to peer, so individuals’ details and communications stay private. Access to the system is through a password system – given to guests during check in.

The market for Wi-Fi is increasing with 68% of respondents owning an enabled device and a further 21% planning to purchase one in the next 12 months.
