Golden Tulip UK announces major expansion plan

Golden Tulip UK has announced a major expansion plan, which will see it add 10 new sites in the next 18 months.

Four new hotels with a development cost of £30m are due for Belfast, Chippenham, Whiltshire; Stoke, Staffordshire and Sheffield, Yorkshire under the group's three-star Tulip Inn banner.

Bar Chippenham, all will be housed in mixed-use developments including residential and retail space.

Another six sites are in negotiation at locations across the country, including a second four-star Golden Tulip hotel for the group, which will be built in Dublin.

Chief executive Peter Roberts said: "It's been slow going to this point but we now have a healthy pipeline of properties and we plan to have 25 by the end of 2008."

Roberts said the majority of the new sites would be Tulip Inns, adding that with the focus in the UK market over the past few years on budget or four-star there remained a huge opportunity for a contemporary three-star offering.
