What's On Your Plate? campaign launched
A host of well-known chefs have thrown their weight behind a new campaign - What's On Your Plate? (WOYP) - that seeks to promote locally grown, environmentally sound food.
Launched today by the Fair Food Foundation, the campaign wants restaurants to highlight the provenance of their ingredients so diners can make informed choices.
Phil Howard, chef-patron of two Michelin-starred London restaurant, The Square, said: "Using local produce is a no brainer - it is simply the freshest, cheapest and most seasonal produce available."
Nigel Haworth chef-proprietor of Lancashire's Michelin-starred Northcote Manor said: "WOYP is exactly what all the industry should be supporting, educating all levels of catering to embrace the need for provenance and develop truly transparent menus."
Other backers include Andrew Pern, chef-proprietor of the Michelin-starred Star Inn at Harome, North Yorkshire; and Roux Scholar and National Chef of the Year, Steve Love.
