South Trafford College wins Nestlé Toque d'Or competition
South Trafford College has lifted this year's Nestlé Toque d'Or trophy with a restaurant themed around football.
Trafford beat Sheffield, Lancaster & Morecambe and Kilmarnock colleges to the title with its British Classics 1966 restaurant, which marked the 40th anniversary of England's World Cup triumph.
The teams ran their themed restaurants for a day at The Sunday Times Home Show in April, but the winner was only revealed last week at an awards lunch at London's Dorchester hotel.
Each team was assessed on a range of skills including team work, culinary expertise, front of house service and business acumen.
South Trafford's team comprised Richard Brown, Thomas Sporrer, Richard Carver, Jess Smith, Stuart Fairbrother and Marvin McGogg-Singh.
A British menu of spiced parsnip soup garnished with fruit dumplings; trio of lamb comprising a herb crusted lamb cutlet, home-made lamb and mint sausage and individual miniature shepherds pie, served with seasonal vegetables; and chocolate and coffee bread and butter pudding with orange and vanilla foam was served to tables adorned with St George's Cross tablecloths and English rose centrepieces, with images of the 1966 England football team on the wall.
The six winning students will soon head to North Carolina, USA, for a study trip at Johnson & Wales University.
All finalists receive catering equipment for their colleges from Electrolux Professional.
