Rocco Forte fined £500 by police after car accident

Legendary hotelier Rocco Forte has been fined £500 after he failed to inform police that his wife had been driving his car when it was involved in an accident.

Sir Rocco's wife Aliai was involved in a four-car smash in July last year after she had been driving the wrong way down a one-way street only to drive away from the scene.

CCTV footage led to the car being traced back to Forte who argued that he had never seen the two notices asking him to name the driver.

The chief executive of the Rocco Forte Hotel chain pleaded guilty at Guildford's Magistrates Court on 28 June to failing to supply information to the police.

The court was told that Lady Forte had forwarded the notices to her husband's workplace without notifying him.
