TRI: Hotels 2006 Europe

Low labour costs have helped make London hotels the most profitable in Europe, according to the Hotels 2006 Europe survey by Tri Hospitality Consulting.

London led the way with a profitability ratio of 42.9%.

Parisian hotels achieved Europe's highest revenue per available room of €156.43 (£108), followed by London at €127.83 (£88).

However, hotels in the French capital were saddled with the third highest labour costs in Europe. Payroll costs represented 42.9% of turnover compared with a European low of 27.2% in London.

As a result, IBFC in Paris accounted for just 29.8% of total sales.

Brussels and Vienna were the least profitable hotel cities in the survey and both faced the highest staffing costs, which gobbled up 42.7% and 43.7% of sales respectively.

The figures are compiled each year by TRI Hospitality Consulting.
