US company Smith Travel Research (STR) and UK hotel data provider The Bench have joined forces to create a global benchmarking service.

The two companies have merged their hotel performance tracking businesses to create a service that will provide performance metrics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis for destinations around the world.

Jonathan Worsley, chairman and co-owner of The Bench, said: “There is a real need within the industry to provide a global solution to hotel benchmarking data and we are delighted to now offer such a product by combining forces with STR.”

As part of the deal STR has purchased a minority stake in The Bench.
