New general manager appointed at London's Savoy hotel

London's Savoy hotel has appointed a new general manager after a six-month hiatus.

Kiaran MacDonald joins the landmark hotel from sister property the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in the USA, where he had been general manager since 2003.

MacDonald has more than 20 years' experience in the industry, having spent his early career at London's Royal Garden Hotel and Hilton's London Metropole hotel.

He joined Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in 1995 as director of food and beverage at the Scottsdale, until his promotion in 1998 to hotel manager.

MacDonald said he was delighted to be joining the Savoy.

The appointment follows the departure in April this year of Mark Huntley, since when the position has remained vacant.

The Savoy's owners are considering closing the property next year for extensive refurbishment and renovations.
