Laws will get even tougher(02 November 2006 00:00)I feel your news story headed "Government hits back over 'Part L' criticism" (Caterer, 26 October, page 8) did not accurately summarise Golden Tulip's philosophy on the reduction of carbon emissions and energy efficiency in hotels. We're very strong supporters of increasing energy efficiency. All our new hotels will be well within the L2 requirements and, wherever possible, will use renewable and sustainable energy sources. My point in the article was that the Government is likely to make the restrictions even tougher, and while it says the new carbon emission regulations apply only to new buildings, have we all forgotten how the Disability Discrimination Act regulations came in? I believe that in time all hotel buildings will be forced to comply with stringent standards, and I urge those who have the opportunity to comply well within the new energy standards as I have no doubt in 10 years' time the current regulations will seem insignificant, whatever the Government says now.
