Park Plaza Hotels Europe has appointed Erik van Kessel as vice president operations, continental Europe, as it looks to expand.

Kessel joins from NH Hotels where he was managing director of their Germany operations.

He replaces Micha Polak who has stepped up to the role of senior vice-president for development at the company.

Park Plaza, part of Carlson Hotels, operates 27 sites worldwide and is looking to expand operations in the UK and Europe.

It will open the Park Plaza County Hall hotel in London in September 2007.
