US winery unveils Travel Bursary 2006 winners

California-based winery Kendall-Jackson has announced the winner of its Travel Bursary 2006 competition.

John Ryan, assistant food and beverage manager at the Marriott Grosvenor House hotel in London, was named as the winner and wins a four-day trip to California.

Ryan and his competitors had to submit a theses on the current perception of Californian wines in the UK.

Highlights of Ryan’s trip will include extensive tours through the coastal vineyards as well as wine tasting sessions and meetings with Kendall-Jackson’s wine maker Randy Ullom.

The runner up of the competition was Garry Clark, sommelier at the Chester Grosvenor and spa, who has been sent six bottles of Kendall-Jackson’s Stature wine collection. This includes a Napa Valley Sauvignon Carbenet and a Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay.
