Lake District country lodge changes hands(23 November 2006 00:00)Gowbarrow Lodge, a Lakeland stone country lodge alongside Lake Ullswater in Cumbria, has changed hands. The new owner of the Lake District lodge is Julie Miller-Crook from Preston, who also owns a barber shop and a number of rented-out properties. The lodge, in the hamlet of Watermillock, offers eight en-suite bedrooms on the first floor, a 10-seat residents’ bar, a 16-seat residents’ lounge, and a 54-seat breakfast and dining room. There is also one-bedroom owners’ accommodation on the ground floor. The lodge has been run on a B&B basis, although it has offered evening meals in the past. As well as refurbishing the bedrooms, Miller-Crook plans to start offering lunches. The Manchester office of Christie + Co sold the freehold off a guide price of £695,000 on behalf of John and Dorothy Whitehead, who have run the business for the past 17 years.
