Aled Williams is Ramsay Scholar

Aled Williams, chef de partie at two-Michelin-starred Midsummer House in Cambridge, was crowned the 2007 Gordon Ramsay Scholar on Saturday (25 November) at Birmingham's NEC.

In the hotly contested final, Williams - pictured right with Ramsay and actor John Thomson - beat off challenges from seven other young chefs. "To say I'm in a state of shock is probably an understatement," he said after winning at the BBC Good Food Show.

Among Williams's prizes were a Volkswagen Golf, a set of Wusthof gourmet knives, £2,000 cash and stages at Aria restaurant in Australia and Gordon Ramsay's flagship London restaurant on Royal Hospital Road. Watch out for a full report next month.
