Latest NewsGrease interceptors to be fitted in all restaurants(13 December 2006 11:00)A Dartford MP has tabled an early day motion calling for grease interceptors to be fitted at all restaurants and fast-food outlets by law. Howard Stoate (Labour) said the measure would “stop the tide of warm fat that clogs the sewer system”. He estimated that more than 1,000 tonnes of fat swills through the sewers of Thames Water every year. When it hardens and cools it can lead to blockages and flooding. Stoate said: “There is an urgent need for further measures to tackle this problem which is why I am calling on the Government to make it compulsory for all existing restaurants and takeaways – not just new premises – to have a grease separator installed.” Operators must be alert to all dangers >> Article continues below
