Waiting for food is most common complaint by UK diners

Waiting longer than an hour for food is the most popular cause for complaint amongst the UK public when eating out, according to new research.

A poll of more than 1,000 UK adults, conducted by TNS for Woodward Foodservice, revealed that receiving the wrong dish and poor service were second and third on the list of reasons to complain.

Ed Hyslop, chief executive of Woodward Foodservice, said: "Our expectation levels have risen in line with the frequency of our trips to the local pub or restaurant."

Of those surveyed, three-quarters had complained while eating out in the past 12 months.

For more on complaints see this weeks Caterer and Hotelkeeper on Thursday (21 December).

  • 40% waited over an hour for their meal
  • 35% were given the incorrect food order
  • 31% experienced poor service from waiting staff
  • 31% said their food wasn't hot enough
