Orchid pub group invests in new payment technology to fuel growth

Recently formed pub company Orchid has forked out £4.3m on an upgrade to its cash-registers as part of its continuing investment in the business.

The electronic point-of-sale terminals supplied by Zonal Retail Data Systems were installed in 44 days, with around 800 training sessions put on for staff.

Orchid's finance director Charles Freeman said: "The decision highlights our commitment to improving service and efficiency, and we believe it will be a key factor in supporting the company's future growth."

Since formation in June 2006, Orchid has completed two package deals. The first saw it acquire Noble House's oriental pub-restaurants, including London's Pacific Oriental and Imperial City. In July 2006 it paid £571m for 290 boozers from Punch Taverns.

Orchid plans to refurbish 50 sites in the next six months.
