The Square wins four AA rosettes

The AA has announced a number of additions to its restaurant awards including the Square in London, which was honoured with four AA rosettes.

The AA praised the two-Michelin-starred Mayfair eaterie for its style and sophistication, as well as its imaginative cuisine overseen by head chef and co-owner Philip Howard. It was also recognised for its persistent "high standards" and for continuously providing inspiration to the hospitality industry.

Howard welcomed the award. "We're always looking to progress at the Square while maintaining the focus on customer satisfaction," he told Caterer.

"When this is rewarded in any restaurant guide, it's very warmly welcomed."

Additions to the three-AA-rosette holders include newcomers such as Anthony Demetre and Will Smith's Soho venture Arbutus, celebrated French chef Joël Robuchon's first London eaterie L'Atelier, and Gordon Ramsay's La Noisette, as well as Japanese restaurant Roka.

Outside London, Linthwaite House in the Lake District was recognised for the flair of new head chef Simon Bolsover, and Sienna in Dorchester was praised for its fine, modern British food, both restaurants being awarded three rosettes.

AA chief hotel and restaurant inspector Peter Birnie said: "I'm delighted to be rewarding such remarkable newcomers as well as those more established eateries which continue to raise the standards and thus encourage excellence in the industry."

There are now 26 four-rosette establishments in Great Britain and Ireland. There were no new awards of five rosettes to join the existing tally of five, which include the Fat Duck in Bray, Gordon Ramsay in London and Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in Oxfordshire.
