HCIMA to become the Institute of Hospitality

The Hotel & Catering International Management Association (HCIMA) has announced that it is to become "the Institute of Hospitality".

Association members voted in favour of the name change at an extraordinary general meeting today.

The change must now be approved by the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI).

Phillippe Rossiter, chief executive of the HCIMA, said the change was driven by the results of its statutory review, which showed 60% of members disliked the old name.

"The association has been running for 30 years, and over that time the definition of the industry has changed. It's more diverse, and so are our members," he told Caterer and Hotelkeeper.

"The Institute of Hospitality reinforces our position as an education provider."

If approved by the DTI, the new identity will be launched in spring, along with the new name and logo.
