City Inn to open flagship hotel in Amsterdam

City Inn has been awarded the contract for a new €150m (£99m) flagship hotel development in Amsterdam.

Designed by British architect Rab Bennetts, the 550-room hotel will feature a lounge, cocktail bars, "City Café" restaurant and is due to open in 2010. It will be part of one of the biggest urban development projects in Europe worth an estimated €710m (£477m).

Sandy Orr, executive chairman, said: "This is a momentous occasion for our private British company as it is our first international development and it is in one of the most important location sin one of Europe's most historic and modern cities."

Chief executive David Orr, added: "We are confident that our hotel, with its bars, restaurants and panoramic meeting spaces will be a very welcome addition to Amsterdam's already vibrant business and cultural life."

City Inn currently has four UK hotels in London's Westminster, Bristol, Birmingham and Glasgow. Further hotels are due to open in Manchester in 2007, in Leeds in 2009 and at the Tower of London in 2010.
