Learning and Skills Council calls on leisure sector to back National Skills Academy

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has called for the leisure sector to pro-actively back the development of a National Skills Academy (NSA) for the industry.

Together with the Department for Education and Skills, the Sector Skills Development Agency and the Department for Trade and Industry, the LSC has called on employers to register their interest before the closing date of 5 March.

The NSA network aims to deliver employer-led, world-class centres of excellence that drive up skill levels and productivity required by each sector of the economy.

The Government plans to have 12 NSAs up and running across England by 2008. So far, the Government has approved academies for construction, financial services, manufacturing, food and drink manufacturing industries, nuclear process industries, creative and cultural and hospitality sectors.

Employers who would like to get involved in the National Skills Academies network need to register their interest to the must sector skills council, People 1st or SkillsActive, or the Sector Skills Development Agency by 5 March.
