InterContinental to open 26 more hotels
InterContinental Hotels Group will this week set out plans for an expansion of its flagship brand. The group, which is expected to announce an £800m return of cash to shareholders alongside its financial results this week, has signed deals to open 26 new InterContinental hotels in the past year in destinations including San Diego, Davos, St Petersburg, Moscow and Tokyo. – Sunday Times, 18 February
Former Jurys manager killed in US

Diarmuid O'Brien from Co Cork, was killed in a car crash while driving home from the Courtyard Marriot hotel, Washington, USA where he worked as an assistant general manager. Mr O'Brien started working with the
Jury's Hotel group before moving to the USA in September. –

Yates’s owner in talks to buy £500m leisure business
The private-equity firm best known for having invested in Yates’s, the bar chain, is in talks to buy Park Resorts, one of the UK’s largest operators of caravan parks, for up to £500m. GI Partners, which has head offices in both London and California, is understood to be negotiating exclusively to buy the company from its majority shareholder, ABN Amro Capital, the private-equity arm of the Dutch bank. – Sunday Times, 18 February.
VisitScotland to target carbon-conscious tourists from England
VisitScotland will this week unveil six target groups of visitors which it hopes to attract to Scotland's mountains, glens and smoke-free bars. The strategy is likely to include a renewed focus on visitors from the rest of the UK. Some of the more environmentally minded may be attracted by the relatively small amount of CO2 produced in a jaunt from London to Glasgow rather than Thailand. – Scotland on Sunday, 18 February.
