Neo-Nazi bid to buy hotel in Rudolf Hess birthplace blocked
The German town where Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party deputy, Rudolf Hess, was buried has banded together to buy a hotel to stop it from falling into the hands of a prominent neo-Nazi lawyer.
The 10,000 inhabitants of Wunsiedel in Bavaria together bought the hotel/restaurant Waldlust after hearing that Hamburg-based lawyer Jürgen Rieder, who is connected to the far-right, wanted to buy it and turn it into an election campaign centre with seminar rooms for the National Party (NPD).
He also wanted to make it a Rudolf Hess memorial centre.
The price they paid for the hotel has been kept secret.
It was Rieder's second failed attempt to buy a hotel after people in Delmenhorst, Lower Saxony protested last year and prompted city authorities to buy an empty hotel in the city to stop Rieder from acquiring it.
