A London-based chef and his hotel manager wife have bought the White Lion pub- restaurant that sits alongside the Grand Union Canal in Buckinghamshire.

The White Lion is a two-storey period property in the village of Marsworth, which sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Chiltern Hills. It is near the Herfordshire border and the towns of Tring and Aylesbury.

The pub’s position beside the canal and Startop’s Resevoir makes it a popular destination for narrow-boat users, walkers, cyclists and fishermen.

Along with a main bar, a snug and a 32-seat restaurant, the White Lion has its own delicatessen and 24-seat café in the basement.
 
The café opens onto a canopied decking area that can seat another 40 customers while the beer garden can accommodate up to 131 al fresco diners during the summer.

The business comes with two-bedroom owners’ accommodation.

The new owners are Michael and Darlene Brookes from Mill Hill, London. Michael, a chef, has worked at Claridges and Grosvenor House hotel while Darlene is a former hotel manager. 
 
The Milton Keynes office of Christie + Co sold the leasehold (which runs to March 2017) off a guide price of £140,000 on behalf of Clive and Ilse Millac, who are returning to Belgium.
