Harvey Nichols chef joins D&D London restaurant group

Helena Poulakka, executive chef at the Fifth Floor Restaurant at London's Harvey Nichols store in Knightsbridge, is to join restaurant group D&D London, formerly Conran Restaurants.

Finnish chef Poulakka will join the company later this month and will take on the role of head chef at its new eatery at the revamped Royal Festival Hall at London's South Bank, which set to open in June.

Before Harvey Nichols Poulakka was head chef at Sonny's in London's Barnes.

At Harvey Nichols she will be replaced by Jonas Karlsson, who has been acting executive chef for the lpst six months while Poulakka has been on maternity leave.

He previously worked at Orrery and Coq d'Argent, both in the capital.

D&D's new venture at the South Bank, which is yet to be named, will comprise a 240-cover eatery and a restaurant, brasserie and central bar area and serving modern seasonal Great British food.

Its look, which is being developed by design and architecture consultancy Conran & Partners, will reflect the original 1950s style of the property with the restaurant featuring an "elegant yet informal setting" and the brasserie comprising a bar and grill.
