Latest NewsHealth minister promise to tackle malnutrition in older people(19 March 2007 10:30)Health Minister Ivan Lewis has promised action to tackle malnutrition in older people. Speaking last week at the National Association of Care Catering, Lewis committed himself to producing an action plan to tackle the issue. “In my view, there is no excuse for vulnerable, older people not receiving the food they require and the necessary help to eat that food,” said Lewis. Issues discussed in relation to an action plan were: raising awareness between nutrition and good health; nutritional standards; streamlining guidance; prioritisation from leaders and managers from both health and social care; training for frontline staff and managers; clearer focus in inspections.
