Stratford Town Trust is to approach a variety of celebrity chefs to turn a boat club on the banks of the River Avon into a “world-class restaurant” and put the town back on the tourist map.

The proposed restaurant will be a major part of the town’s World Class Stratford redevelopment plan and will see the first floor of the recreation ground boat club transformed as a showcase tourist attraction and help turn around falling tourism levels.

Richard Eggington, chief executive at Stratford Town Trust, told Caterer it had made indirect approaches to “one or two” celebrity chefs but the primary goal was to “raise our profile and standing as a premier tourist attraction”.

The redevelopment is also dependent on a building extension into neighbouring parkland and subsequent local authority approval.
