Work begins on UK's first Staybridge Suites
Tomorrow sees development work start in Liverpool on InterContinental Hotel Group's (IHG) first UK long-stay apartment, Staybridge Suites.
The £18m hotel on the Kings Waterfront development is due to open in early 2008.
To attract the long-stay market, the 132 single-bedroom and studio suites will include fully equipped kitchens and extra living space.
Public areas will include a 24/7 shop and outdoor terrace with a barbeque.
IHG has signed a 20-year management contract with BDL Hotels, which will develop the hotel.
John Wagner, vice-president of Staybridge Suites, said: "I am delighted that we have signed the third contract in the UK to bring the Staybridge Suites concept to Liverpool. The kind of business that exists in Liverpool and the growth of the economy is very well-suited to that kind of extended-stay customer."
Two further Staybridge Suite hotels are also planned for London, although planning permission still needs to be finalised.
