Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 2.5% in the North East during the month of February.

Revpar was £49.51 in February 2007, down from £50.78 in February 2006, according to figures from hotel benchmarking service The Bench.

Although occupancy dropped by 2.2 percentage points to 75%, this was offset by a 0.3% rise in average room rate to £66.01, compared with £65.80 in February 2006.

The Bench - which is partnered with US firm Smith Travel Research - provides online benchmarking data for in excess of 34,000 hotels in more than 400 markets.

The online service allows users to track their performance in average room rate, occupancy and revpar  in a variety of formats and to measure their daily performance against their competitors.
